Integrated Graduate Program in Physical and Engineering Biology (PEB for short; peb.yale.edu):
PEB trains a new generation of scientists, who will be skilled at applying quantitative methodology and approaches from physics and engineering to problems in biology, and who will be sufficiently sophisticated in their biological training to identify and tackle cutting-edge problems in the life sciences. The PEB certificate program works in conjunctions with 10 different PhD granting departments/tracks at Yale across the biomedical sciences, chemistry, physics, and engineering. PEB students take PEB courses together in the first two-years and meet and hear about the research of ~20 PEB faculty members in year 1. The program offers many professional development activities, outreach opportunities, and activities to improve students’ communication skills.

Program statistics: Currently, PEB has over 70 graduate students and 25 alumni, with a typical class size (in the last few years) of 13-20 students per year. Of the alumni, 42% are pursuing academia, 21% are working in industry or biotech, 29% in big data, consulting, or finance, and 8 % in other positions.
